Well I’ve arrived back from my trip to Catalunya/Madrid/Basque region and a most enjoyable trip it was too, but I’ll bring you more about that later in the week. But for now, it’s this week’s update. Since I wasn’t able to bring you anything over the last couple of weeks I thought I’d return with something of a corker – I trust you will enjoy this track as much as I do.
So…. this is a record I have been aware of for a while but until relatively recently, it had been quite a hard one to track down. Thankfully I managed to secure my copy for somewhat less than the going rate. Anyway, what can I tell you about it? Well it was released on the Penn label out of the Bahamas in the early 70s (the label owned by the legendary Frank Penn of “Gimme Some Skin” fame) .
Don’t be thinking this is some cheesy calypso style thang though. Oh no – this has a great funk groove. Sure you can feel the Caribbean vibe running through it but there’s also lots of organ, terrific percussion and a great horn section in there. All in all this is just a great record to get down to! Don’t believe me – check it out for yourself:
