Yet again we come to a new week and a new update is dictated to by news of the sad passing of yet another soul legend – this time the great talent that was Donald “Duck” Dunn, best known for being the bass player with the legendary instrumental group Booker T & The Mg’s
“Duck” died in the early hours of Sunday morning just hours after doing what he did best – performing live, at the Blue Note in Tokyo. His musical career led him to play on some of the greatest soul tracks ever recorded – including Respect, Dock Of The Bay & Knock On Wood. Later in his career he also featured on tracks by Eric Clapton, Neil Young & Rod Stewart among others.
Shortly after hearing of the sad news about Duck, I also discovered that another great soul singer had also just passed away at the age of 63 – Belitia Woods. I’d highly recommend checking out her fantastic song “Grounded”, probably one of my personal favourite soul tracks.
Gazfunk would like to pass on our condolences to both Donald & Belitia’s family & friends at this sad time. R.I.P.
