Jack Hammer – Swim

The inspiration for this week’s selection came as the result of a particularly heavy deluge over the last few days here in Belfast (perhaps that should be the last few months!!) so it feels particularly apt.

Jack Hammer should be well-known to r&b fans for his many songs using the word “twist” in the title. This selection is somewhat more funky though and has always been in-demand amongst many record collectors. In recent years however, it’s become somewhat over-played and many dj’s no longer play it due to its popularity.

The b-side to this track (Colour Combination) is another great r&b floorfiller with a somewhat harder edge, which is worthy of a post on its own. Add to that the simply fantastic “Down In The Subway” (as murdered by Soft Cell in the 80’s) and Jack Hammer should surely be regarded as one of the greatest lesser-known soul/r&b singers.
