Quite some time ago i featured a 45 by Hodges, James, Smith & Crawford titled “Nobody”. The record I am featuring today comes from one of the aforementioned quartet – Pat Hodges.
This particular track was released in ’69 – around that golden period for “Sister Funk” style tunes. What I find a little odd about this song (and part of it’s charm) is that the vocals have a bit of a country twang. Now I’m not a country music fan at all but this vibe does give a unique sound to the record. Though, obviously Pat Hodges wasn’t a country singer, she was an African American soul (and later disco) singer. What adds to this song are the drums – they’re absolute killer here and really are ripe for sampling.
