Ann Sexton – You’ve Been Gone Too Long

Howdy partners! I hope life has been treating you well these last few weeks. Mine has been… erm.. challenging! Thankfully I’ve managed to get a few spare minutes to myself to be able to bring you this latest update.

I suppose today’s choice needs no introduction given how popular it has been on the soul scene since forever. It’s still nice to go back to the classics every once in a while though – especially when it’s as mighty fine as this!

Those of you of a certain vintage might recall me featuring Ann Sexton way back in the early days of Gazfunk. I think I might have featured “You’re Losing Me” at the time. This is probably her signature tune though. I’ve seen it described as Northern, Deep Soul, Funky Soul ,Modern Soul and Crossover (there’s probably even more labels I’ve forgotten). I don’t particularly care to get into such labels (or arguments) so I’ll just leave it as a great soul record. So hit the play button on that video below (and if you haven’t heard it before you are in for a treat) otherwise let yourself drift back in time.
