Bless me followers for I have sinned – it has been 4 weeks since my last submission.
So life’s been pretty mad the last few weeks and unfortunately that has gotten in the way of my intention to provide posts on a more frequent basis. But something is better than nothing, right?
Today’s chosen 45 comes from one of my favourite ever soul singers – Mr Lou Rawls. With his baritone voice, Rawls was a totally distinctive singer. Even speaking (just listen to the intro to “Dead End Street”), there was an air of cool that came from those vocal cords – so much so in fact that as well as being a renowned singer,he was also a prolific voice actor.
If you’re a soul fan you’ve probably guessed (rightly) that today’s title is a cover of the legendary Sam Cooke’s gold selling record. In fact, Rawls performed backing vocals on Cooke’s original back in ’62. This version however was cut a bit later in ’70.
