Howdy again! Hope you are all good. I know, I know, it’s been a while. Life has been so damn busy recently as I’ve been getting work down to my hose so that I can put it up for sale. As you can imagine things have been a bit upside down so I haven’t really had much chance to do an update. I also had a short trip to Belgium to recharge a little bit. Definitely worth a visit if you haven’t been and of course I was able to squeeze in some record shopping! Anyhow, I know you aren’t here to catch up on my personal life – you’re here for the sweet ear candy. So let’s get right into it.
Today’s selection comes on a label that is pretty familiar to you I guess. A while back I featured the Gaturs on this eponymously titled label. Today’s 45 comes from a legend of the New Orleans scene, Mr Willie Tee. Willie Tee (or Wilson Turbinton to give you his full name) was a singer/producer/arranger/keyboardist from the Crescent city. He worked as bandleader for both The Wild Magnolias and The Gaturs.
This record was one of 30 solo records that he cut. It was released in 1972 during probably the funkiest period of his whole career. Around this time he also made the 4 Gaturs singles that were up there with The Meters in defining the New Orleans funk sound. I’m sure many of you know and probably have this in your collection but if you don’t, you’re in for a treat. I’m right, I know I’m right!!
