The Wilson Brothers – You Took My Future Away

Apologies for the delay between my last post and this one. Life has been pretty hectic recently! But good things come to those who wait and this record is a little more than just good. It’s a corker!

Every once in a while you stumble upon a tune that isn’t overly well known but isn’t all that valuable either. That’s certainly one of my favourite type of records. Today’s selection fits that completely. Rarely heard out so still sounds fresh and cheap enough to buy. Win-win!

So what vibe have we got goin’ on here? Well, some might call it crossover, some might call it soul, some might call it funk – I’d call it funky soul. There’s some great sample heavy drums in the beginning and I just L-O-V-E the vocals. Definitely one for the dancefloor.

Who are the Wilson Brothers? Well, I’ll be honest – I don’t know anything about them. If you do, drop a comment on the post. What I do know is they cut 2 singles (both of which were released in 1969). The other 45 (“Soul Town”) I also have and it’s well worth a listen. Maybe I’ll feature it another time…
