The Barons Ltd – Making It Better

Happy New Year everyone! It’s still ok to wish people Happy New Year half way through January, right? I’ve been super busy these last few weeks after taking a little bit of time off from my day job (running Vietnamese Coffee Co with my brother) over the festive season. Understandable then that I haven’t had enough time to bring you some quality 45s to enjoy.

One of the joys of Christmas is receiving presents (sure the turkey and spending time with family is great too!!) Fortunately for me, these presents happen to come in the shape of records. Well I should say not just the shape but actual vinyl records. Like most other vinyl addicts I have a wantslist of 45s that never seems to shrink any!! Fortunately my brother goes through them and picks out a few as presents. Result!

The record I have selected for you today is one such example being that it was a Christmas present (thanks Marty!) One of the things I have learnt over the years is that you are never going to have everything. Sometimes there’s well-known records that you haven’t gotten round to buying that other collectors had eons ago. Then there’s others you have that your collector/dj friends haven’t. Swing and roundabouts…

Today’s cut comes from The Barons Ltd – another funky group from the Crescent city. This one is slightly more mid-tempo than some of my other selections recently but no less funky. Some of you based in the U.K./Ireland might recognize it from an Ikea ad of a few years ago. Released in 1971, there’s definitely a Temptations influence running through it – fair enough in my opinion! Hopefully I’ll get to do more regular updates this year and have some guest contributors (if they get their a$$e$ in gear. Ha!) For now, enjoy this one and I’ll see y’all again soon.
