****LONG TIME WANT ALERT!****
Yes, indeedy after many years being on my wants list I have finally snagged this absolute banger of a tune! You’ll probably recognize the title from the classic Sam & Dave hit back in 1966 that’s been featured in tv ads, film and just about everywhere else since.
This version is I’d guess unlike any of the other versions that you may have heard. Sapodilla Punch hail from Trinidad & Tobago and cut just 1 album back in 1969 called “Steel Soul”. The album featured covers of many well-known tracks like “Get Ready”, “Day Tripper” and “My Girl”. However, it’s this one that is my favourite and luckily enough was the only one to get a 45 release. Result!
So what vibe have we got going on here that makes this one so different? Well in a word (in fact two words) steel drums. There’s also really groovy 60s style harmonies/vocals not to mention a killer bassline! This is probably one of those tracks that I should keep to myself because everyone will be after a copy and claim they discovered it! However, the groove is just sooo damn fine that I had to share it. That’s what music is all about after all, eh? Enjoy!!
