I hope you enjoyed the return of Gazfunk a few weeks ago after quite a long break. As I mentioned last time out I won’t be able to post an update every week but it certainly won’t be 1 every 7 years!!
So today’s wax comes courtesy of one of the breakout stars from last year – Jalen Ngonda. The passing of Sharon Jones & Charles Bradley left a massive hole in the Daptone family. Nothing could (or will) ever take their place but in Jalen Ngonda, it feels that Daptone have discovered another fantastic soul act who we can hopefully enjoy for many years to come.
Unfortunately for me personally, I didn’t get the opportunity to see him live during his tour last year. Plenty of friends did and they said that the shows were incredible. I would have loved to promote a show here in Belfast but it didn’t happen – who knows in the future though….
Anyhow this selection comes from the “Come Around And love Me” LP and is probably my favourite track off the album. This 45 only came out a couple of weeks ago and will likely sell out pretty quickly (like most of the other 45s did). If you’re on the ball you might still be able to nab a copy from the Daptone website and if Jalen is playing in your town or nearby – don’t miss the chance to check him out live!
