The Poets – Fun Buggy

Fun Buggy By The Poets on 45rpm Vinyl

Hello everyone! Well it’s been a while, hasn’t it? 7 years or thereabouts. I’ve finally been able to find a small amount of time outside of running my business to bring back the blog posts. Yay! They may not be as frequent as previously whereby I was posting once a week, but something is better than nothing, right?

If you used to follow the old Gazfunk, you’ll notice a lot of differences on my new site. It’s a lot more professional for a start (all my own work I might add!) and has much more content from mixes to events and hopefully some merch and vinyl to come. But for now it’s on to todays vinyl selection…

There will be (no doubt) some of you who are aware of today’s artist. They are from Scotland and recorded one of the all-time mod anthems – “That’s The Way It’s Got To Be” back in 1965. Today’s selection comes from a little later – 1971 in fact and with a totally different line-up. This was cut to advertise (as the title suggests) Strike Cola, a caffeinated beverage from legendary Scottish brand Barrs. Those of you in the U.K./Ireland will be well aware of Irn Bru (“Made from Girders”) as well as plenty of other soft drinks.

So what does “Fun Buggy” deliver? In a word – “breaks”, and plenty of them. Often sampled and compiled by DJ Shadow & Cut Chemist on their “Product Placement” release back in 2001, this 45 has been responsible for bringing many b-boys (and girls) to the dancefloor over the years. In spite of being aware of this track for a long time it took me quite a while as strangely it doesn’t come up that often – especially in decent condition. As another drinks manufacturer once said “Good things come to those who wait..”
