So I’m back, and with something of a rather odd selection for you this week after an almost 2 week hiatus (busy personal life these days!). The artist in question is one Tony Jackson. Now I thought that was a name I had heard of before but it certainly wasn’t down to any solo releases and after a little digging it all became clear – Mr Jackson was a former member of reggae legends The Skatalites.
You probably don’t know, but we here at Gazfunk love our original ska and reggae (as well as some Two-Tone) but because were are a funk and soul blog, we’ve never featured anything like that before, so please indulge me in this rather flimsy link… Anyway, I’ve saw some people describe this tune as “Brit Funk” which is rather taking liberties a little as Tony Jackson only moved to the UK in 1966. One thing that can’t be argued though is that it is funky, damn funky. Released in 1972 it’s a mid-tempo groove with nice distortion/wah-wah going on and best about it is that it’s super cheap to pick up as well (I think my copy was actually bought for me as a Christmas present!!)
I’ll definitely be back at some point next week and will be digging in my sack to bring you some nice Christmas funk to kick off the holiday season.
