Guest Contributor – Jens Chreisti

Well funk fans I’ve returned from my holiday where I’ve finally been able to relax and have the sun at my back, but like all good things it must come to an end and so I’m back here with you all to share some more great soul & funk. So what better way to get back into the swing of things than with our next guest contributor.

Together with Mr Joakim Holmqvist he formed the club Genuine 45 who played host to some of the most influential djs in the soul/funk world including Northern Soul legend “Butch”, Jazzman Gerald, Euan Fryer, Russ Dewbury and of course, yours truly. They have also dj’d as part of John Legend & Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings tours, so with a pedigree like that it seemed only right that they should be invited as one of our guest contributors.

When I first asked Jens about contributing it took a while as he wanted to dig out something special from his collection to showcase. The resulting 2 tracks were a recent purchase that’s become a big favourite of his of late. One side is a funky soul cut, whereas the flip is a tremendous slab of sweet soul, lowrider style. In true digger style, there’s not a lot of info out there about this track other than it’s out of Washington D.C. sometime in the early 70s.

Big thanks to Jens for his time – I hope you dig his tunes as much as I do!
