Sarah Webster Fabio – Sweet Songs

So this week’s update brings you one of my favourite records in my collection. I first came across this song in the late 90’s after hearing it on a radio show and it instantly got me hooked. This song also featured on my fellow Belfast DJ, David Holmes’ album “Come Get It I Got It” released in 2002.

The track itself is taken from the album Jujus/Alchemy Of The Blues released in 1976. Sarah Webster Fabio was actually a poet who recorded a number of albums throughout the 70s though none of them were funky like Jujus. What is surprising about this song is that despite it being released in 76 it sounds very tough and more like it was made in about 71/72 as by 76 the blossoming disco and modern soul was having more of an influence on the black sound at that time.
