Georgie Fame (or Clive Powell to give him his real name) is a legend of the 60’s music scene in Britain and an icon to the mod scene. Alongside Brian Auger and Alan Hawkshaw Fame was one of the finest exponents of the hammond organ in the UK throughout the 60’s.
Originally starting out playing the piano at a young age, his musical influences came from the late 50’s rock and roll scene, however by the time he had acquired a residency at the Flamingo Club in Soho, his sound had taken on the influences of jazz, r&b and ska.
As his sound developed, Fame began playing the hammond organ more and more, covering classics like Green Onions and Papa’s Got A Brand New Bag. Around this time he scored a number 1 single with Getaway, however it was the b-side to this track that we feature here.
El Bandido is a storming hammond instrumental that’s perfect for the dancefloor. This track showcases Fame’s ability to muster up an organ groove to rate with the best of them.
